Princess Cut Rings We Love Right Now
Since its emergence, the princess cut has been a mainstay in trending gemstone cuts. The princess’s square, angular intrigue coupled with its symmetry and brilliant sparkle has left gemstone lovers spellbound since the 1960’s. Let’s get into a brief history of the cut and take a peek at some of Bario Neal’s favorite princess cut rings.

Origin of The Princess Cut
The princess cut diamond is a somewhat modern evolution of past square cuts. Dating back to the 14th century, early diamond cutters were drawn to square cut diamonds to minimize the loss when cutting from the octahedron shapes they were often mined in. This became known as the “French cut”, which displayed a cross pattern in very few facets, which lead to less sparkle. This cut was very popular and frequently seen in royal jewels. Centuries later, after the brilliant style of faceting was invented and popularized, the French cut was combined with the brilliant cut, resulting in the princess cut.

What Is a Princess Cut?
A princess cut is considered a square modified brilliant cut, due to the shape of the 58 facets cut. The cut resembles that of an inverted pyramid, with a flat surface and beveled sides, creating the appearance of a mesmerizing symmetrical “X” shape within the stone. Unlike other square cuts like the Asscher and Cushion, the princess has sharp corners which need to be set securely to avoid chipping. Our princess cut diamonds and gemstones are sourced through a fully traceable supply chain, from mine to market. Through these relationships, we’re able to provide high-quality, traceable gems while supporting an industry that is steadily moving towards rigorous environmental, labor, and health standards.
