How do I clean my ring?
It is best to have your jewelry professionally cleaned by Bario Neal or another jeweler. For a simple cleaning at home, we recommend mixing dish soap in warm water, soaking your ring or other jewelry for five minutes, and using a soft-bristled baby toothbrush to gently clean behind stones or settings. Air dry, then finish with a polishing cloth. We do not recommend chemical jewelry cleaners because they can damage certain stones.
Here are some additional recommendations for different stones we offer:
Emeralds
Emeralds can be worn daily, but they should be treated with care. Emeralds undergo oil treatment to fill fissures and enhance durability. Avoid contact with cleaning solutions and chemicals.
Black Jade
Black Jade can be worn daily, but it is a relatively soft stone that should be treated with care and protected from harsh cleaners or activities that could cause damage.
Opals
Opals can be worn daily, with the awareness that opals are a soft and porous stone. It is important to take your opal jewelry off during activities that could cause damage. Depending on wear, an opal may chip, scratch, or scuff relatively easily. Opals are vulnerable to cracking if exposed to rapid changes in temperature such as doing the dishes and showering. Opals can become discolored when exposed to water, household cleaning solutions, soap, hand sanitizer, perfume, lotion, and heat.
Why is the matte or polished finish on my ring fading?
No surface finish is permanent. Daily wear leads to small scratches on the surface of a polished ring. The accumulation of this wear will eventually make a polished ring look less polished and more matte. Similarly, wearing a matte ring will eventually make the finish look more polished and less matte. Over time, all finishes tend toward the middle and will eventually look more like a satin finish. See our FAQ on choosing a finish above for more information.

Should I have my gemstone settings checked?
All gemstone rings, especially those with prong settings, should be checked for security annually and worn with relative care. We use our hands constantly, and bumps to the stone or metal can cause shifts and looseness. Rough diamonds are not designed for jewelry in the way cut diamonds are. For that reason, rough diamonds should be worn with extra care and checked frequently to be sure the prongs are tight and the stone is secure.

What do I do if I lose a small stone from my ring?
Pave and channel set melee gemstones will occasionally fall out, especially on bands with diamonds all the way around. Within 3 months of purchase, Bario Neal will replace melee gemstones at no charge. After 3 months, we will replace melee diamonds and gemstones with a repair fee.
Do gemstones require special care?
Gemstones are minerals that vary in their hardness and durability. Some of the most beautiful gems, like opal and jade, are on the softer side. These stones should be treated with care and protected from harsh cleaners or activities that could cause damage.
Can my enamel ring be repaired?
Glass enamel is more delicate than metal and can be damaged over time through impact with hard surfaces. Enamel rings can be repaired, and our standard fee for re-enameling is $65.
