Gemstone Size Comparisons

There are so many different factors that go into building the perfect ring for your special occasion. While Bario Neal’s consultation services and hands-on customization can guide you through the process, it’s important to consider your own stylistic preferences and how they will translate to your size and budget preferences. As you might imagine, there are differences in price depending on your choice of gemstone— the cost of diamonds differs from the cost of sapphires, which differs from the cost of emeralds, etc.— but what you might not have considered is how the weight of your chosen gem could affect its size and presentation.

Much like carat weight varies from cut to cut, different gemstones have proportionately different carat weight, and so they’ll have slightly different millimeter measurements when compared to one another. And so, while you might understand the difference in price point between varying gemstones, what you might not consider is how big or small the gemstone will appear when you finally make the decision of how many carats you’d like your ring to be. While it’s not a massive difference (we’ve put together a side-by-side comparison below), when ensuring that your custom designed ring is exactly what you imagined it to be within your goal price and expectations, understanding how the gemstone you want will present in comparison to others of the same carat weight is all part of the process.

We’ve chosen a variety of round gemstones to display the size differences between gems of the same carat sizes. While all of the gemstones are the same cut, and are displayed across the same standard carat weight (ct), their presenting size varies, with gemstones such as morganite and aquamarine distinctly larger than sapphire or garnet. This means that while you might be paying for a 1ct gemstone, how large that 1ct will translate is dependent upon your choice stone. This also means that if you’re looking for a larger sapphire, you might want to consider how many carats you’ll need to fulfill the desired look.

With our collection of rings for all occasions, and a team that’s eager to help you through the process, we ensure that, no matter your style or budget, and no matter what gemstone you settle on, your ring is perfectly designed for you! Bario Neal’s Size Comparison Guide can help you better understand the sort of variations you might expect from gemstone to gemstone, but ultimately our team will work with you to make sure that everything--size, cut, color and shape--will perfectly fit your desired look.
